| Rev. Terry A. King, Pastor Rock of Ages Baptist Church
Rev. Terry A. King is married to the former Valerie P. Chapman and to this blessed union they have three children and five beautiful grandchildren.
Rev. King has been the pastor of Rock of Ages Baptist Church for sixteen years, where he is a spiritual father and encourager to over a thousand members. Rev. King has organized over thirty evangelistic ministries during this time to service the holistic need of people. He has crossed over many Jordan Rivers to advance towards the promises of God such as the new edifice built in July of 2002 and the transitional housing for ex-inmates implemented in 2004.
Rev. Terry A. King received his education in the Greenville County public school system, served in the Armed Forces and attended Greenville Technical College.
He was licensed to preach the gospel by Rev. C.L. Jones, Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina in the year of 1989 and ordained by the Reedy River Association in the year of 1990 after he accepted his call to pastor.
Rev. King currently serves as the president of the Baptist Ministers’ Fellowship of Greenville and Vicinity. Since his time in office this organization has worked diligently to promote unity within the community through prayer vigils, services, and fund-raising events. Rev. King also serves as the Progressive National Baptist Convention Missions Director for South Carolina, and Congress of Christian Education’s Director General for the PNBC Southern Region.
Rev. Terry A. King has been an inspiration in the lives of many. Though he currently holds many titles and positions he has not lost sight of the calling upon his life. He lives by his motto “If Nobody Reach, Nobody Gets Touched” He will always be revered highly for his relentless efforts assisting those displaced from Hurricane Katrina and providing them financial support so they could be reunited with loved ones. He’s also known for remembering where God has brought him from and willing to go back to the neighborhoods, the hedges and the highways to draw others to Christ.
Because of Rev. King’s love for people and his obedience to God’s instructions, Rock of Ages Baptist Church is the first African American Ministry in the Greenville area to partner with a Hispanic Ministry. This divine alliance has made a mark in history and will impact neighboring ministries throughout the country encouraging others to spread the love of Christ through the breaking down of racial barriers.
Rev. King exemplifies the definition of a preacher/pastor needed for such a time as this. 1 John 2:5 states whoever keeps the word of God, truly the love of God is perfected in him and by this we know that we are in Christ. Rev. Terry A. King is a man after God’s own heart, an essential requirement for the building of God’s Kingdom.
